I've had limited time to work lately, so just a short post today. I've added some rivers. Previously, it was possible to find river-like features, but there was no intentional river generation, so those few flukes were short and poorly formed. I've added proper rivers now, by generating a simplex noise map (scaling the values between -0.5 and 0.5, then taking the absolute value. This results in a sharp 'valley' in the noise, following curved paths. With some more scaling and tweaking to transform the curve, I was able to use the noise to scale the hills and base terrain layer, lowering them where rivers are present. The rivers also affect the column-like terrain features, producing tunnels for the rivers to flow through. The result is quite neat.
